Mercy Center announces new Executive Director

Charles Frey, Executive Director, Mercy Center at MadisonMercy Center at Madison announces its new
Executive Director

For immediate release:

Madison, Connecticut — The Board of Trustees of Mercy Center at Madison, a sponsored work of the Sisters of Mercy Northeast Community, is pleased to announce it has selected a new executive director.

Charles Frey, the former CEO of the American Red Cross of South Central Connecticut was selected from among five finalists.  Prior to the Red Cross, Charles served in various capacities with the SARAH Family of Agencies in Guilford.  A native New Yorker, Charles relocated from New York City in 2000 where he had been serving as Director of Development and Public Relations for the New York State League of Conservation Voters and Conservation Education Fund. Charles also had a successful career as a Catholic educator and administrator.

Recognized for successful educational and non-profit leadership, Charles received the 1993 Principal of the Year Award from the New York State School Administrators Association and has presented professional workshops and seminars nationwide on a variety of topics including fundraising, marketing and management.  Charles has been profiled in New Haven Business Times Magazine, the New Haven Register and The Tablet.  Mr. Frey has been a trustee of the Mercy Center since 2006.  Besides volunteering for Mercy Center, Charles serves on the board of the Orchard House Adult Day Center in Branford.  He recently completed service on the Boards of Directors of Chapel Haven in New Haven, Wightwood School in Branford, and the Association of Volunteer Administrators of Greater New Haven.  “Charles’ success with other non-profit organizations as well as his leadership qualities demonstrated on Mercy Center’s board made him our top candidate” said Mercy Center’s Board Chair, Hank Baum.  Charles and his family reside in Guilford, CT.

Early last year, Mercy Center announced its plans to extensively renovate its existing buildings to create a more comfortable, convenient and energy-efficient space. The architectural plans are complete and the center moves towards commencing construction in early Fall 2010. The board of trustees is deeply grateful to its Director of Development, Krista May, who has been serving as interim executive director for the past 20 months.  Her leadership and dedication has kept Mercy Center a vibrant ministry and conference center since the announcement of its renovation plans.

Come and meet Charles!

In the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy, the public is invited to meet Charles over a “comfortable cup of tea” and see the architectural designs for the new Center on Thursday, August 12 from 4:30-6:30.  All are welcome.
